Mr. Shan Kazmi, band director
Shan Kazmi has served as the band director for Zion-Benton Township High School since 2011. His teaching responsibilities include Varsity Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Beginning Guitar, and directing the Marching Zee-Bees, Zee-Bee Pep Band, and Jazz Ensemble. He is also the Winds&Percussion Adjudication Chair for the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District VII Band Division.
Mr. Kazmi attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL. Throughout college he performed on trombone with the Marching Illini, the UI Philharmonia Orchestra, and numerous other Athletic, Concert, and Jazz ensembles. He also served as a Band Division head for the the collegiate NAfME (National Association for Music Education) chapter, and Vice President and President of the National Band Association local chapters.
Prior to starting at Zion-Benton, Mr. Kazmi taught elementary, middle school, and high school band in the communities of Lockport, Glen Ellyn, and Schaumburg. He also continues to perform on trombone regularly and is a member of the North Suburban Wind Ensemble and the Waukegan Band Foundation.
Mrs. Sara Eikenberry, assistant band director
